Overview
This 4-day course funded by i-NEXT covers a multidisciplinary approach to study the structure of challenging proteins, focusing on membrane proteins and large complexes. It integrates X-ray crystallography and scattering with electron microscopy. The basic principles will be provided for each technique (Macromolecular Crystallography, Small Angle X-ray Scattering and Electron Microscopy); their applications in biological systems, major benefits and limitations will also be discussed.
The Workshop is organized with lectures in the mornings followed by hands-on training. Participants will give a flash presentation about their work and bring a poster. The course is aimed primarily at PhD students and young Post-Doctoral researchers interested in Structural Biology.
The Workshop will be held at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB-NOVA), a scientific research and advanced training institute of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. ITQB-NOVA is located in the Town of Oeiras, at the Tagus river mouth, just outside Lisbon.
Organizers Margarida Archer, José A. Brito (ITQB-NOVA) and Jose Maria Carazo (CNB-CSIC)
