Master Degree in Medical Microbiology at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa

This Master Course is run in a collaboration between the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica,  Faculdade de Ciências Médicas and Faculdade de Ciencias e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
ITQB researchers teach a course on "Microbial Genetics" in the first semester, with the following contents:

  • Bacterial Molecular Biology
  • Genes and genetic elements
  • Regulation of gene expression
  • Genetical analysis
  • Recombinant DNA
  • Methodologies for the study of gene function

A specialization in Bacteriology will also be coordinated by ITQB in the second semester.

Masters Course in Clinical Microbiology at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa (FM-UL)

ITQB researchers are involved in the teaching of 2 classes on "Antimicrobial resistance and Molecular Biology in Clinical Bacteriology follows;

  • Identification of bacterial clones. Epidemiological importance
  • Molecular methods for the identification of bacterial strains
  • Molecular methods to detect antimicrobial resistance
  • Molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and their importance
  • Techniques involving enzymatic cutting and electrophoretic separation of DNA
  • Techniques involving DNA amplification and separation
  • Genes identification using molecular probes

Collaboration with the Faculdade de Engenharia of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FE-UCP)

ITQB researchers teach the following courses:

1. 1st year classes - Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Engineering of Environment and Urbanism, Engineering of the Firm, Information Engineering and Health Engineering Courses.

2. Chemistry and Biochemistry classes of the Masters Course on Health Engineering.
