Title: Biosensors and microfluidic towards diagnostic of disease

Speaker: Abel González Oliva

From: Biomolecular Diagnostics Lab, ITQB

Abstract:

The presentation will focus on the multidisciplinary activity of the team committed to develop new instrumental tools for disease diagnostic, cell handling and characterisation.
In the last years the group has been working in development of innovative diagnostics for veterinary diseases based on biosensing approaches (e.g. African swine fever virus; Theileria sp., Brucella sp., Babesia sp.).
Technologies like micro-fluidics and micro-fabrication, allied to the discovery and characterisation of innovate biomolecules and immunoreactions, allowed the development of immunosensors and an impedance spectrometric cytometer. Recently we started to develop microfluidic platforms towards single cell analysis, allowing the entrapment of animal or plant cells (cell size from 5um to 90um) which open new opportunities for the design and exploration of original biological assays.
