Title: Science policy and research governance: what can researchers do? The example of the EU-LIFE alliance

Abstract:

EU-LIFE is an alliance of leading European research institutes in the life sciences. Launched in 2013, EU-LIFE represents over 7200 researchers and staff from 553 research groups working in different fields of life sciences in 13 European countries. Marta Agostinho, the EU-LIFE Coordinator, will present how at EU-LIFE research governance and science policy are addressed. Challenges for individual researchers and research institutes in policy making will be discussed using as example the shaping of Horizon Europe, the future EU programme for funding research and innovation that will run from 2021 -2027.

 

Marta Agostinho

Marta Agostinho is the Coordinator of EU-LIFE, an alliance of European research institutes in the life sciences that aims at promoting excellence in research and acting as a voice for research institutes in the European policy landscape. As Coordinator of EU-LIFE, M. Agostinho overseas the implementation of the strategy of the alliance and leads the science policy area. She is also expert evaluator in H2020.

M. Agostinho has over 10 years’ experience in knowledge mediation in international settings and 10 years’ experience of research in life sciences. She holds a PhD in Cell Biology (2007) and a post-graduation in Science & Society (2009). Her fields of action include science policy, strategic science management and communication, outreach and public dialogue with science; and training.
