Pedro Barros
Pedro Barros is a Post-Doc working at GPlantS since 2012
Pedro Barros graduated in Biology by Univ. Évora and has a PhD in Biology granted by ITQB-UNL in 2012.
During his PhD, Pedro was involved in the study of the molecular mechanisms of low temperature signaling during seasonal development in almond (Prunus dulcis). He analyzed the role of two transcription factors belonging to the CBF/DREB1 family, focusing on flower bud development during fall/winter dormancy and blooming time.
Presently, Pedro's research is focused on cork oak. He is performing in silico studies using the recently available CorkOakEST database to search for candidate genes involved in abiotic stress response. Additionally, he is studying the impact of oxidative stress on cork oak genome integrity and cork development, by assessing the occurrence of DNA damage and epigenetic modifications upon stress exposure and during natural aging.
