The generation of genetically engineered foods has been raising concerns and controversies amongst the general public and even within the scientific community. Scientific discussions are sometimes overrun with unsubstantiated beliefs on the power and risks of this technology or confused with the inherent commercial interests. In a matter that calls for public well-informed decisions, the study recently published by Margarida Oliveira (ITQB) and Rita Batista (ITQB and INSA) revises the facts and fiction surrounding genetic engineering.
