Plant cell suspension cultures represent a promising platform for the bioproduction of high-value molecules. This seminar will cover the scientific journey behind the development of engineered plant cell biofactories for ketocarotenoids, which are specialized metabolites with multiple applications, particularly as food supplements. I will share the key findings and challenges that have shaped this research, highlighting how fundamental insights into plant cell biology have opened new opportunities for sustainable carotenoid production. This project also illustrates the potential of plant cell platforms to provide valuable pigments for food, feed, cosmetics, and other emerging applications.
SCANs are weekly seminars that happen every Wednesday at noon by in-house researchers and invited speakers at ITQB NOVA.
