Title: Structural Biology of Proteins: a 70 year-long journey

Speaker: Pedro Matias

From: Industry and Medicine Applied Crystallography Lab, ITQB NOVA

Abstract: In this presentation I will speak about the birth and development of Structural Biology of proteins, from the discovery of X-rays and of their diffraction by crystals, later applied to the structure determination of macromolecules by X-ray crystallography, to the more recent developments in cryoelectron microscopy (the Resolution Revolution). I will also cover several projects where I was directly involved during my years as a researcher at ITQB NOVA to illustrate our contribution to this field.

SCANs are weekly seminars that happen every Wednesday at noon by in-house researchers and invited speakers at ITQB NOVA.
