Title: Pedagogical Innovation and GenAI
Speaker: Manuela Aparício, Pro-rector for Pedagogic Innovation at NOVA
Abstract: Generative AI (GenAI) is transforming higher education, shifting learning toward a networked, collaborative, digital, interactive, and increasingly gamified paradigm. While LLMs help students perform many tasks, institutions must still ensure real knowledge acquisition. NOVA studies (2023, 2025) find continued GenAI use depends on system quality, ethics, expectation confirmation, frequent use, and perceived performance impact. Trust reinforces fairness and ethical acceptance. Main use cases include producing educational content (videos, quizzes, summaries), personalized tutoring, document improvement, creative support, and question answering, enabling more efficient and tailored learning. Key challenges include student isolation, upskilling professors, ethical practice, critical thinking, and clear guidelines.
