Applications for ITQB NOVA Master's Programmes are open! 

All programmes have a hands-on approach, meaning you will learn directly from researchers and professionals who are breaking new ground every day. Programmes are developed with the best partners in each field and in close connection with the industry. Here, you can develop your thesis in state-of-the-art laboratories and offices, run by multidisciplinary and multinational scientific teams.

If you are coming from abroad, you will feel right at home, as most programmes are taught in English whenever non-Portuguese speakers are attending.

MSc in Plant Biology for Sustainable Agriculture

Tackle major global challenges of food security, sustainable production and climate change with thMaster’s in Plant Biology for Sustainable Agriculture, developed at ITQB NOVA and aligned with the Green-IT Research Unit. 

Combining theoretical and hands-on training in plant sciences, this Master’s programme equips the next generation of plant researchers and agricultural leaders with the skills to advance knowledge in plant sciences, bridge the gap between the lab and the field, and promote sustainable food production.

In a cutting-edge research environment, students not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them to real-world situations.

Graduates can pursue career paths in R&D, agrotech, environmental conservation, and policy within academia, industry, NGOs and government agencies.

MSc in Science Communication 

Bring science and society closer together with the Master’s in Science Communication.

Students will explore the relationship between science and society and scientists’ role in it, while tracing the evolution of the science communication concept. They will also learn and apply strategic communication and journalism tools, and engage with successful communication projects.

The Master’s in Science Communication, developed in partnership with NOVA FCSHtakes a practical perspective of three main communication channels: research institutions, educational institutions, and the media.

Graduates can pursue career paths in journalism, science communication, educational institutions or in other institutional settings.

MSc in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics 


Explore the interface between life and technology with the Master's in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics.

This course is implemented in partnership with FCT NOVANOVA IMSNMS and IHMT NOVA and provides solid skills in gathering novel biomedical knowledge through computational approaches.

These skills are indispensable to bring innovation in different areas of biomedicine, such as drug discovery, optimization of treatment schemes or personalized medicine, and to aid in the design and optimization of biotechnological processes.

Graduates can pursue career paths in education, and R&D areas in national or European service industries.

MSc in Biochemistry for Health
Build the skills to innovate and shape the future of human health with the Master's in Biochemistry for Health.

In partnership with NMS and FCT NOVA, this programme provides a strong foundation to understand human health from a biochemical perspective, and promotes critical and analytical skills to address real challenges in biomedical research.

This Master’s programme offers a multidisciplinary approach to Biochemistry, spanning areas such as Biophysics, Biology, Biotechnology, and Chemistry, and prepares students for research, industry and other health services.

Graduates can pursue careers in the pharmaceutical industry, medical laboratories, public health, public administration and regulatory sectors, or in R&D in the biosciences, medical and pharmaceutical fields.

MSc in Medical Microbiology
Join the frontline of disease prevention and develop skills to make a real impact on human health with the Master's in Medical Microbiology.

Developed in partnership with IHMTNMS and FCT NOVA, and with a strong practical component, this programme trains specialists with a multidisciplinary and global view of molecular microbiology for human health. 

Students will acquire multidisciplinary skills tailored to real-world challenges, drawing on the diverse expertise of the different institutions and the unique synergies established between them.

Graduates can pursue career paths in diagnostics, medical centres, public health and cutting-edge research in academia and in industry.
