The Master’s Programme in Biochemistry for Health provides a critical and analytical perspective of Human Health from a Biochemical point of view.
Students have the opportunity to gain strong basic knowledge in Biochemistry, especially in its interface with Biophysics, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry (particularly with a pharmacological perspective), and Social Sciences. The programme relies on the strong scientific and educational expertise of 3 schools from Universidade Nova de Lisboa – ITQB NOVA, NOVA FCT, and NOVA Medical School – to access multidisciplinary areas of research and development in several sectors of industry and services related to Human Health, including Pharmaceutical Industry, Clinical Analysis, and Biotechnology.
International students are welcome to apply and classes will be taught in English whenever non-native Portuguese speakers are present.
Curricular Structure
The Master in Biochemistry for Health is composed of 2 semesters of classes and 2 semesters for the preparation of the dissertation with a laboratorial basis.
The programme offers six compulsory curricular units that enable students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of biochemistry, including topics such as: analytical biochemistry, structural characterization of molecules, the molecular basis of diseases, and bioinformatics.
In addition, students can customize their academic path by choosing various optional curricular units which include topics such as: active ingredients; biopharmaceuticals; bionanotechnology; immunology; human genetics; bioethics; glycobiology and disease; toxicology; among many others.
