Title: Physicochemical principles of phase separation in cell physiology and disease

Speaker: Avinash Patel

Affiliation: Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, Germany

Abstract:

The discovery of phase separation in cytoplasm has provided a novel set of physicochemical principles to describe compartmentalisation in cells. I will address how phase separation not only creates crucibles to isolate and influence reactions but also leads to an enhanced risk of driving aggregation of disease causing proteins.
