Title: IMpaCT and its impacts

Abstract:

In 2019, we were awarded a Twining Project Horizon 2020, IMpaCT (Nº 857203) that aimed to bring Cryo-EM knowledge to ITQB NOVA, relying on a unique and highly experienced Cryo-EM network of partners that aims to develop ITQB NOVA scientific projects needing Cryo-EM methodologies.

The organization of this project is centered on three pillars: Data Processing, Single Particle Analysis and Cryo-Electron Tomography. Our network was build based on these three pillars and is composed by: CSIC-CNB in Spain (PI Jose Maria Carazo); the University of Helsinki in Finland (PI Sarah Butcher) and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel (PIs Michael Elbaum and Sharon Wolf).

We will present an overview of our project, which includes the different activities that we have organized and promoted, such as workshops, seminars, visits to the partners and from the partners. Also, as part of our mission we have been disseminating IMpaCT through different activities, for example courses for young researchers and outreach activities. These activities are well documented on our website.

On top of all the outputs that we have produced, IMpaCT had a huge impact on the different research projects on-going at the MX-Unit as well as in other groups at ITQB NOVA. Thus, we will present our current (ongoing) results on our scientific projects using the different CryoEM methodologies, namely Single Particle Analysis (SPA) and Cryo-electron tomography.

In conclusion, with this project and with the entire network that we have built, we have placed ITQB NOVA in the European Road Map of Cryo-EM.
