Metabolic Engineering of Bacteria with Industrial Relevance

Systems Engineering of Lactic Acid Bacteria

Main objectives: Metabolic Engineering of Bacteria with Industrial Relevance (Lactococcus lactis and Corynebacterium glutamicum) for acquisition of useful traits such as, increased resistance to acid, production of added-value compounds (2,3-butanediol, mannitol, erythritol). In vivo NMR is used to measure on line the dynamics of intracellular metabolites and co-factors with the aim to provide reliable data to be used as guidelines for efficient metabolic engineering strategies. The team collaborates with groups with expertise in mathematical modelling for the integration of the data at multi-level organization
