Overview
Vital microbial processes rely in the complex interaction of specific microbial communities with the surrounding environment. Therefore, microbial survival will depend on the physiology and biochemistry of that interacting community. Metabolism of the different components available to microbial populations in a particular environment will depend on their particular requirements, at a particular moment, and it may evolve in function of the resulting environment change and physical conditions. Accordingly, we are in presence of a dynamic process that states either microbial populations behaviour or environment constitution. Microbial biodiversity will be influenced and controlled by the species diversity within that specific ecosystem and by the surrounding environment, subsequently altering and influencing the environment as a whole.
