Nuno Gonçalves

Nuno Gonçalves is a PhD Student at GPlantS under the supervision of Isabel Abreu and Margarida Oliveira

nuno.jpg Nuno Gonçalves graduated and also has a Msc. degree in Cellular Biology and Biotechnology from FCUL.

Nuno Gonçalves is currently studying the role and regulation of the only DELLA protein of rice. He is researching the stress regulation of DELLA proteins by gibberellins. Focusing on the only DELLA protein present in rice, SLR1 and its response to several abiotic stresses we hope to unveil a novel role in tolerance mechanisms in crops. As DELLA proteins are described to be mainly regulated at the post translation level, a full proteomics gel-based approach will be employed in order to characterise stress-induced post-translational modifications (PTMs) - such as phosphorylation, ubiquitination, glycosylation and sumoylation - that could be responsible for the stability and enhanced activity of these proteins regarding both growth arrest and subsequent acquisition of tolerance.
