Sónia's current research is mainly focused on the characterization of new allelic variants in rice salt-tolerance genes, using EcoTILLING technique. Additionally, Sónia is coordinating a project involving ESAC and IRRI, which aims to identify key genes/proteins involved in rice anther development under salt stress. She is also interested in the evolutionary aspects of salinity tolerance.
