Methodologies
- Synthesis of macrocyclic compounds by cyclization reactions: ring closure facilitated by special protecting groups, template synthesis, high dilution, metathesis.
- Study of the acid-base reactions of the macrocyclic compounds: determination of the protonation constants by potentiometric, UV/Vis or NMR techniques and study of the protonation sequence by NMR spectroscopy.
- Determination of the equilibrium constants of complexes of macrocyclic ligands with metal ions and of the association constants of supramolecular assemblies with other cations, anions or neutral molecules by potentiometry or NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopies.
- Structural characterization of complexes and of supramolecular assemblies of macrocycles with anions and neutral molecules by NMR and EPR spectroscopy, and crystal structure determination (in collaboration with Vítor Félix from the Aveiro University).
