Title: Light and water games with porous silicates and metal organic frameworks

Short Biography

João Rocha got his Ph.D. in 1990 from the Department of Chemistry, Cambridge University, UK, working on solid-state NMR of kaolinite and related materials. He has been in the Chemistry Department, Universidade de Aveiro, since mid 1991. In 1999 he was promoted to Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry.

He has published some 370 SCI papers and 19 book chapters, with ca. 6400 citations (h-index 39), and 3 patent applications. He is on the editorial board of European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry and Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. He is member of the Commission on Inorganic and Mineral Structures of the Internacional Union of Crystallography. In 2004 he received from the Portuguese Science Foundation the prize for Scientific Excellence.

João Rocha still enjoys visiting schools and giving talks aimed at  raising the students scientific awareness and showing the beauty of Chemistry and Materials Science.
