Abstract:

Information sharing has always been a determining factor for technology development and knowledge evolution.

Nowadays, the forms of organizing and sharing information have been successively adapted to the principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability and reuse (FAIR).

In Science this problem was first addressed in CERN on the 1980's. Tim Berner-Lee started by discussing data-sharing among scientists at CERN and proposed a first model of the World Wide Web (www) which has been, since then, continuously developed in the framework of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

The massive amount of data that is now generated with low investment further exposes the weaknesses of poor data management practices.

On this talk, the best practices for data management will be addressed, such as the controlled vocabulary, ontologies and databases, as well as the curation and stewardship role.

The strategy adopted by the Plant Community in Europe will be presented as a case study for the data management and sharing implementations.
