Title: Harnessing the power of the phyto and phyco microbiome

Abstract:
Plants (“phyto”) and algae (“phyco”) play essential roles in Earth’s ecosystems and a in wide range of agricultural and biotechnological applications. The sustainable increase of plants and algae productivity and stress resistance is therefore of outmost importance.
One way to address this challenge resides in the study and the application of the phyto and phyco microbiome. Mutualistic members of the microbiome may potentiate the growth, development and stress resistance of their host, thus, harnessing their power is essential for the development of novel sustainable solutions.
In this seminar, I will present my academic work related to the study of plant-microbe interactions, and the selection and application plant and microalgae-growth-promoting bacteria. Moreover, I will present my latest funded research project “Phyco-u-biome”, focusing on the analysis of the microbiome of selected microalgae and the study of the molecular interactions between microalgae and microalgae-growth-promoting bacteria.
