Title: Synthetic Biology for the sustainable production of added-value compounds

Speaker: Isabel Rocha

Abstract: Synthetic and Systems Biology form the two arms of the ambitious European project Shikifactory100, which will finish in 2023 and in which I have the scientific coordination of the consortium. The main objective is to implement novel biological routes for the production of 100 compounds with applications in food, pharma or cosmetics. Computational methods guide the optimization of pathways and enzymes, while state-of-the art molecular biology tools help the high-throughput implementation of the best designs.

In this presentation, I will give some examples of sucessful implementations within this project, including the development and utilization of metabolic models, enzyme engineering methods and sucessful implementation of full pathways.
