Abstract: In the treatment of various diseases, the administration of cells for therapeutic purposes has become a routine procedure in modern medicine. Recent advances in targeted genetic editing and cell manufacturing have
expanded the options of cell-based (immune)therapies. The focus of this seminar is laid on synthetic biologyinspired strategies for combating infections. This will include a strategy based on the conversion of an infection-associated biomarker, used to visualize infection and produce antivirals or antibacterials. Moreover, the use of cells for local delivery and controlled release of therapeutics will be discussed.
