Encontra-se aberta candidatura a uma bolsa de investigação para Mestre, no âmbito do projecto interno do ITQB NOVA intitulado “Estudos enzimáticos e estruturais de proteínas essenciais para o metabolismo de patogéneos anaeróbios”.
Área Científica: Ciências Biológicas - Bioquímica e Biologia Estrutural
Formação Académica: Mestrado ou Mestrado Integrado, nas áreas de Bioquímica, Biotecnologia, Microbiologia, Biologia, Química Aplicada, ou áreas afins, com média ponderada (Licenciatura e Mestrado) ou média final de curso (Mestrado Integrado) igual ou superior a 15 valores.
Outros requisitos: - Dar-se-á preferência a candidatos com experiência laboratorial nas áreas de Bioquímica e/ou Microbiologia, nomeadamente em caracterização bioquímica/biofísica de proteínas, expressão e purificação de proteínas; - Motivação para investigação e boa capacidade de trabalho em equipa; - Bons conhecimentos de língua inglesa, falada e escrita; - Motivação para prosseguir para doutoramento; - o/a candidato/a selecionado/a receberá formação em Prática de Investigação no âmbito de um curso de extensão universitária ou de pós-graduação (https://www.itqb.unl.pt/education/training/#Pos-Graduation), disponíveis no ITQB NOVA, onde terá de se inscrever após ser seleccionado/a e até à data de contratualização da bolsa, conforme o Artº 6º do Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., em vigor, e concluirá essa formação no âmbito desta bolsa.
Plano de Trabalhos: O trabalho envolverá o estudo de enzimas importantes para o metabolismo de patogéneos anaeróbios, e implicará treino em técnicas de bioquímica, microbiologia e de biologia estrutural incluindo: engenharia de enzimas, produção de proteínas recombinantes, purificação de proteínas, catálise enzimática, métodos enzimáticos e espectroscópicos de caracterização proteica, cristalização de proteínas e resolução de estruturas de proteínas por cristalografia de raios-X.

Local de trabalho: O trabalho será desenvolvido nos Laboratórios de “Metabolismo Energetico Bacteriano” e “Cristalografia aplicada à Industria e Medicina” do Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, sob a orientação científica da Professora Inês Cardoso Pereira e Doutor Pedro Matias.
Duração da bolsa: A bolsa terá a duração de 3 meses, eventualmente renovável, com início previsto em Março de 2024, em regime de exclusividade, conforme Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P.
Valor do subsídio de manutenção mensal: O montante da bolsa corresponde a 1199.64€, conforme tabela de valores das bolsas atribuídas directamente pela FCT, I.P. no País (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf). O pagamento será efectuado, mensalmente, por transferência bancária.
Métodos de selecção: O método de selecção será por avaliação curricular (CV e carta de motivação) com nota de 1 a 10, de acordo com os requisitos de admissão, seguida de uma entrevista a realizar aos cinco melhores candidatos classificados na avaliação curricular com nota igual ou superior a 7,0. A classificação final terá a ponderação de 60% para a avaliação curricular e de 40% para a entrevista no caso dos candidatos seleccionados para a mesma, e de 100% da avaliação curricular para os restantes candidatos.

Plano de Trabalhos: Com a duração de um ano, o projeto pretende complementar a formação de licenciados em comunicação e áreas afins, na vertente de comunicação de ciência institucional. Em concreto, o estudante colaborará na implementação de estratégias de comunicação digital através de um novo website institucional, bem como na organização de eventos destinados a comunidade científica. Durante este período, o estudante terá oportunidade de colaborar e aprender com investigadores e comunicadores de ciência do ITQB NOVA, adquirindo experiência e prática, ao mesmo tempo que é desafiado a sugerir estratégias fundamentadas para atingir os objetivos propostos. Na vertente da comunicação digital, o projeto envolve uma análise de benchmarking de websites de instituições similares e entrevistas a potenciais utilizadores, de forma a elaborar um plano informado para a construção do novo website do ITQB NOVA, incluindo a respetiva “árvore”, funcionalidades específicas para diferentes utilizadores, sugestões de conteúdos, linguagens de programação, frameworks, requisitos técnicos, requisitos de backoffice e orçamentação. Na vertente de organização de eventos científicos, o projeto envolve uma análise das práticas de organização do Gabinete de Comunicação do ITQB NOVA e de outras instituições, bem como da ficha de eventos em uso, com o objetivo de sugerir e introduzir melhorias das mesmas. O estudante participará na organização de diversas iniciativas, de forma a desenvolver a vertente prática, culminando na organização de um evento internacional na área de microscopia, com a presença de palestrantes nacionais e estrangeiros e presença nas redes sociais.

Working Plan: We seek to explore a new class of multivalent glycoconjugates for bacterial toxin/adhesin inhibition. The selected candidate will prepare and purify oligomeric multivalent scaffolds; conjugate them with carbohydrate ligands; characterize the interaction between the glycoconjugates and toxins/adhesins by biophysical techniques; elucidate the structure of the complexes formed and evaluate the inhibition of adhesion to host cells.

Working Plan: Arabino (furanosyl) transferases are promising therapeutic targets for the development of molecules capable of inhibiting these enzymes and with potential for the development of compounds with anti-tuberculosis activity. The candidate will be involved in some of the following tasks: bacterial cell growth, protein purification, biophysical and functional characterization, structural analysis, computational studies for in silico screening to identify promising drugs and evaluation of their effect on mycobacteria.

Scientific Area: Bioinformatics / Computational Biology / Biological Sciences.
Academic Degree: Candidates with a master degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Agronomy, Geology, Biology, Biochemistry, or similar areas.

Will be valued: - Knowledge in semantic web technologies and standard vocabularies; - Knowledge of data management, curation, sharing and interoperability; - Prior experience in plant sciences or soil analysis; - Prior software development experience; - Background knowledge or experience in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and link data.
Work Plan: The plant work is aligned with the project plan “PHENET”. He/she will develop tools to enable data flow from data acquisition to modeling and publication by standardising and integrating interoperable data produced by platforms at the dataset and database levels. A Soil ontology will be developed based on: Existing ontologies (e.g. Environment Ontology -ENVO) to describe soil composition and texture. They will be extended to enable a full description of the soil health e.g. contaminants and chemical composition. Collaboration with the soil scientific community and projects will be set up. The work plan will also include data annotation using controlled vocabularies and ontologies, as well as the curation and submission of datasets to predefined databases. This part of the work plan will be performed using data sets produced to validate the developed Soil ontology. In the end the work plant will provide services to enable FAIR data curation, storage and exchange enabling Open Science policy through data sharing, interoperability with modelling and sustainable data publication on existing open repositories.
