iBET participates in CARDIOPATCH Scientific Meeting

The first annual meeting of the CARDIOPATCH consortium took place on the 21st of October in Toulouse

The first annual meeting of the CARDIOPATCH consortium took place on the 21st of October in Toulouse (France), where the different partners presented and discussed the progresses made on the development of an innovative regenerative medicine approach to treat myocardial infarction.

The main highlights of the project so far are the development of the first prototypes of a stem-cell based smart-patch able to regenerate damaged cardiac tissue, the preliminary design of a roll up device to facilitate non-invasive patch implantation in the heart, and a prototype of a 3D system enabling patch production and streamline transport.

iBET’s researcher Margarida Serra presented an update on the development of bioprocesses and high-throughput analytical ‘omics tools for the manufacturing of cellular components for the patches: hiPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, mesenchymal stem cells, and stem-cell derived extracellular vesicles.

In this meeting the partners also discussed CARDIOPATCH’s communication activities, including their impact metrics, as well as ongoing strategies to promote synergies between the Health and 3D printing sectors, and future initiatives, including regional cooperation missions and interviews with Public Administrations.

CARDIOPATCH first Annual Meeting was a key milestone in the project enabling the partners to engage with each other and define future strategies towards the development of the initiative’s therapy model. Learn more about iBET participation in CARDIOPATCH project here.
