Oeiras, 25.10.2017

We congratulate André Santos, alumni of ITQB NOVA, who was awarded today the Young Investigator Award by Sociedade Portuguesa de Bioquímica (SPB) for the work developed as a PhD student at Inês Cardoso Pereira Lab. The ceremony took place during the 1st Joint Meeting of the French-Portuguese-Spanish Biochemical and Molecular Biology Societies, that is taking place in Barcelona.

The SPB Young Investigator Award aims to stimulate quality research done by young researchers in Biochemistry, while promoting and communicating biochemistry research in Portugal. It recognizes work in high impact publications by Portuguese biochemists under 35, at Portuguese research institutions.

André Santos was the sole recipient of the award, with the work “A protein trisulfide couples dissimilatory sulfate reduction to energy conservation”, which was published in Science and was highlighted in December 2015.
