Brazil and Portugal United in Science Communication

International forum brings together five post-graduate programmes in science communication from Brazil and Portugal

The Brazil-Portugal Science Communication and Dissemination Masters Forum takes place online on December 2nd and 3rd. The forum is an initiative between five post-graduate programmes and the Brazilian Instituto Nacional de Comunicação Pública da Ciência e Tecnologia (INCT-CPCT) to foster the exchange of ideas and discussion amongst professors and current or recently graduated students in the field.

The event will be held online and feature over 30 presentations of projects by post-graduate students from both countries, as well as two round tables with experts in the field of science communication. Participation is free, does not require registration, and will be transmitted on YouTube channel of Casa Oswaldo Cruz, a technical-scientific unit of Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, in Brazil, dedicated to research, teaching, documentation and dissemination of the history of Brazilian public health and biomedical sciences.

“Both countries share similarities in science communication training - the language and the fact that their masters in this field were recently created”, states Luísa Massarani, coordinator of the Instituto Nacional de Comunicação Pública da Ciência e Tecnologia. Ana Sanchez, co-coordinator of the Science Communication Masters from ITQB NOVA and NOVA FCSH, believes that “this an amazing occasion to share experiences, advice and good practices, thus functioning as an opportunity for students and professionals from both countries to grow as science communicators”.

This initiative will gather students and researchers from:

  • Instituto Nacional de Comunicação Pública da Ciência e Tecnologia (INCT – Brazil).
  • Academic masters in Dissemination of Science, Technology and Health, Casa de Oswaldo Cruz (COC/Fiocruz).
  • Masters in Scientific and Cultural Dissemination, Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem e Laboratório de Estudos Avançados em Jornalismo (Unicamp – Brazil).
  • Masters in Science Communication, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier e Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Portugal).
  • Masters in Science Communication, Instituto de Ciências Sociais, Universidade do Minho (Portugal).
  • Masters in Scientific Culture and Sciences Dissemination, Universidade de Lisboa (Portugal).

This forum is supported by CNPq and Faperj.
