Most beautiful protein crystals selected for cover

Oeiras, 20.05.11

The first, and often hardest, step in x-ray crystallography for protein structure determination is producing the right crystals. For scientists, all protein crystals are landmarks but some are also true gems. Acknowledging the crystallization contribution to its scientific content, the journal Acta Crystalographica F publishes, every year, a montage of the best in crystal photomicrographs from crystallization communications published the previous year. In 2010, three of the most beautiful crystals were produced at ITQB.

The featured crystals from ITQB are from the following publications: Bandeiras et al., 2010 (1st row/ 2nd left ), Pinho et al., 2010 (2nd row/ 1st left ), and Rocha et al., 2010 (4th row/ 1st left ).
