21st November: Closing date for FEMS grants
EMBO-FEMS Workshop on Microbial Sulfur Metabolism

EMBO-FEMS Workshop: March '09

Registration and abstract submission are now open for the the EMBO-FEMS Workshop on Microbial Sulfur Metabolism, organized by Inês Cardoso Pereira (ITQB), Christiane Dahl (Bonn) and Niels-Ulrik Frigaard (Copenhagen).

The workshop is sponsored by EMBO, FEMS and IUBMB, and will take place in Tomar from 15 to 18 March 2009.

Sulfur compounds are essential for all organisms, have highly diverse roles ranging from protein cofactors to substrates of energy metabolism, and microbial sulfur chemistry has an important impact on the environment. This symposium covers the many recent advances that have been accomplished in the field of Sulfur Metabolism, especially those using molecular and environmental approaches. Topics include: Genomics, Transcriptomics and Proteomics, Evolution, Sulfur-based energy metabolism, Organosulfur biochemistry, Biosynthesis of sulfur-containing metabolites, Environmental activities, and Biotechnological applications.

There will be several talks selected from submitted abstracts, a number of FEMS grants to support the attendance of young scientists, and a prize for best poster presentation.
