Eurobic Medal 2006 awarded to Prof. António V. Xavier

Founder of ITQB recognized for his significant contributions to the study of metalloproteins

The EUROBIC8 Local Organizing Committee is very pleased to announce that the 2006 EUROBIC Medal will be awarded to Prof. António Xavier, one of the founders of ITQB and its first director.

The Eurobic Medal a very prestigious international distinction in the field of Biochemistry and is attributed every two years to outstanding researchers in the field of bioinorganic chemistry. With this award, Prof. António Xavier, author of more than 220 scientific papers and distinguished with many prizes and awards over the years, is now further recognized for his significant contributions to the study of metalloproteins.

Prof. R.J.P. Williams, Emeritus Fellow and Professor at Oxford University, a reference name in the field and former Ph.D. supervisor of Prof. António Xavier wrote a biographic note for this occasion that is available at the Eurobic 8 website and will present the medal to Prof. A. Xavier. The award ceremony will take place during the 8th European Biological Chemistry Conference, EUROBIC 8, which will be held in Aveiro from July 2 to July 6.
