InnovPlantProtect considered most relevant investment of 2021

The award was attributed on June 30, 2021, during the 8th edition of AgroIn, an Annual Agribusiness Congress.

Oeiras, 01 July 2021

The Elvas collaborative laboratory InnovPlantProtect (InPP) was distinguished by Vida Rural magazine with the "Investimento que Marca" award, for being considered "the most relevant investment in the last year in the national agricultural and agro-industrial sector"

The executive director of InPP, Pedro Fevereiro, believes the award "is an incentive for InnovPlantProtect, which was installed in a low-density region and managed to attract 38 highly qualified human resources to install a modern innovation unit. It also rewards the vision of the municipality of Elvas, which from the first hour embraced this challenge.”

Resulting from a project born within the NOVA University of Lisbon, InPP brings together a total of 12 associates, in a public-private partnership that brings together academia, companies such as Crop Science, Syngenta Crop Protection, and Fertiprado, research centers, producer associations, and the Municipality of Elvas, in order to promote the competitiveness of the national agricultural sector.

According to the director of Vida Rural, Isabel Martins, the choice of the collaborative laboratory was based on its aim to reinforce the importance of investment in research and innovation, on a key area for the future of agriculture: "the search for bio-based solutions for crop protection in a challenging context, in which it is necessary to ensure food production in an increasingly sustainable way.”

More about InnovPlantProtect: IPP aims to develop innovative bio-based solutions to protect crops from pests and diseases, as well as to provide diagnostic and monitoring services, contributing to the sustainability of agricultural systems. The main focus of this collaborative laboratory is Mediterranean crops, in particular their protection against emerging pests and diseases associated with climate change, whose harmful effects are already visible in many countries, including Portugal.
