New director of ITQB appointed

New director of ITQB appointed

José Artur Martinho Simões

Professor José Artur Martinho Simões was appointed by the Rector of UNL as director of ITQB for the next three years. According to the ITQB statutes, Professor Luís Paulo N. Rebelo was equally appointed as vice-director of this research institute.

 

José Artur Martinho Simões (b. 1952) is full professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon, Portugal.  He obtained his Ph.D. at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, in 1981 (thermochemistry of organometallic compounds), and made post-doctoral studies at California Institute of Technology, USA (1982-83).  In 1988-89 was Visiting Research Officer at the National Research Council of Canada and in 1996-97 was Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA.  His scientific interests are in the area of molecular energetics.


Luís Paulo N. Rebelo (b. 1960) is associate professor with agregação at ITQB. In 1983, he graduated  in Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon. He obtained his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, UNL in 1989 and the Agregação at ITQB in 2005. He was Research Associate at Cornell University (1985), University of Tennessee, (1990, 1991, 1996, 1997), and Princeton University, (1997).
