Ciência 2007

Under the Portuguese government initiative Ciência 2007, the ITQB and the IBET have appointed 18 research scientists. The new researchers are expected to develop strategic areas of research as well as to conduct and support research associated with the National Facilities in a number of critical technologies.

By recruiting additional high quality researchers, ITQB hopes to stay at the forefront of the Life Sciences and related fields, to strengthen some on-going research programs and to foster a closer association within the Laboratório Associado.

Researchers selected to start new research areas at ITQB:

- Andreas Bohn (Computational Biology)

- Dirk-Jan Scheffers (Export of Membrane Proteins)

- Luis Jaime Mota (Host-Bacterial Pathogen Interactions)

- Manolis Matzapetakis (Structural NMR and iron homeostasis)

- Olga Iranzo (BioInorganic Chemistry)

- Patrick David Groves (Molecular Interactions and NMR)

- Pedro M. Domingos (Cell signalling in Drosophila)

- Smilja M. Todorovic (Raman Spectroscopy of proteins)

- Yann Astier (Single Molecule Processes)

Researchers selected to srengthen existing research areas at ITQB:

- Carla  Pinheiro (Plant physiology/Proteomics)

- Célia  Romão (Structure and biochemistry of metalloproteins/metabolics)

- Isabel  Bento (X-ray Service)

- José Esperança (Ionic Liquids)

- Nelson Saibo (Transcriptional regulation in Plants)

- Nuno Borges (Physiology of Extremophiles)

Researchers selected to start new research areas at IBET:

- Cristina Silva Pereira (Applied and Environmental Mycology)

Researchers selected to srengthen existing research areas at IBET:

- Tiago  Bandeiras (Pilot Plant)

- Catarina  Duarte (Nutraceuticals)
