Pfizer Award 2012 for LA collaboration

Team lead by IGC involves ITQB and IBET biochemists

Oerias, 20.11.2012
A recent example of a successful collaboration within the Laboratório Associado was this week distinguished with the Pfizer Award for Basic Sciences 2012 attributed by the Sociedade de Ciências Médicas de Lisboa. The study, coordinated by IGC researcher, Monica Bettencourt-Dias, was published in the journal Developmental Cell in August and reveals how sperm cells build their flagella. Three ITQB/IBET researchers (Tiago Bandeiras, Micael Freitas, and Sara Silva) from the Macromolecular Crystallography Unit lent their expertise in protein biochemistry to establish the function of an essential protein for the flagellum proper function. All the co-authors were present at the award ceremony that took place last Wednesday at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas from Universidade NOVA.
