PhD Program in Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine

The applications for the international PhD Program in Bioengineering – Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine are now open.

The consortium launching this international PhD Program includes institutions from three Portuguese Associated Laboratories and one top US R&D center, the Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies Ressenlaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Portuguese intituions include Instituto de Biotecnologia e Bioengenharia (IBB)/ Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Instituto de Medicina Molecular (IMM), and Laboratório Associado de Oeiras, comprising Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica (iBET), Centro de Estudos de Doenças Crónicas (CEDOC) of Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and ITQB.

Regenerative Medicine is an emergent cross-disciplinary field relying on highly specialized professionals. The PhD Program in Bioengineering – Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine aims to train new research leaders in academia, hospitals and industry, able to produce cutting-edge developments, translated into clinical applications, and to promote new business ventures, improving human health and economic growth. This PhD Program has an innovative curricular structure within the bed-to-bench-to-bed paradigm, where research projects are driven by clinical needs, and outcomes are aimed at translation into clinical applications.

The international PhD Program Bioengineering – Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine comprises one year of Advanced Studies followed by a three-year research project. Students are encouraged to pursue ground-breaking research carried out in collaboration of Portuguese and top international groups, hospitals and companies. The clinical translation focus is aligned with a go-to-market attitude.

Top national and international highly motivated student are invited to apply to the PhD Program in Bioengineering – Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine. Young intern/resident MDs will also be considered as external doctoral students. More details on the application process can be found on the PhD Program webpage.

Application deadline is July 7 but candidates can be selected for an interview before deadline. The first round of interviews is scheduled for week 1-7 July.
