CombStruct Course

How to deal with complexes and membrane proteins?

Oeiras, 23.02.2016

Registration is now open for the CombStruct Course, which will be held from 2 to 5 of May 2016 at ITQB. The course is funded by i-NEXT, a European Infrastructure for NMR, EM and X-rays for Translational Research, with 23 participating institutions including ITQB.

CombStruct is 4-day course covering a multidisciplinary approach to study the structure of challenging proteins, focusing on membrane proteins and large complexes. It integrates X-ray crystallography and scattering with electron microscopy. The basic principles will be provided for each technique (Macromolecular Crystallography, Small Angle X-ray Scattering and Electron Microscopy); their applications in biological systems, major benefits and limitations will also be discussed.

The course, organized with lectures in the mornings followed by hands-on training, is aimed primarily at PhD students and young Post-Doctoral researchers interested in Structural Biology. Participants will give a flash presentation about their work and bring a poster. The number of participants is limited to 20.

Candidates need to submit their application by email, including a short CV, motivation letter and a recommendation letter from the supervisor. The deadline for registration is February 29.

Margarida Archer and José Brito from ITQB are members of the organizing Committee.
