New FEDER-funded project approved

Transbio follows Interbio’s Success

Oeiras, 21.05.2013

The European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), under the framework of the Southwest European Space Territorial Cooperation Programme (SUDOE), approved the transnational project TRANSBIO, an interdisciplinary project of R&D institutions in the Southwest region, where ITQB is the Portuguese partner. The project follows the successful participation of ITQB in a previous FEDER-INTERREG IV: INTERBIO. Together with Bordeaux, Toulouse, Valência and Barcelona already present in Interbio, the Transbio project further involves Montpellier, Santiago and the Balearic Islands. Transbio will start in July and run until the end of 2014.

Other institutions in the Lisbon region have formally associated themselves to ITQB in this new project: the Associate Laboratory institutions (IBET, IGC and CEDOC), P-bio and the municipality of Oeiras.

Four areas of activity are considered in TRANSBIO: (1) Molecules for function modulation, (2) cutting edge technology for biology & health, (3) disease mechanisms, prognostic markers and treatment, (4) biotechnology for sustainability and agrofood. The core activities at ITQB will involve interdisciplinary and trans-regional researchers mobility projects (Academia, Companies, Hospitals) and a workshop focused on the technological platforms available at ITQB and its associate partners, scheduled for November 2013.
