Are you passionate about plants and the future of food and agriculture? This new Master’s might be for you!

Launching in the 2025/2026 academic year, ITQB NOVA presents a brand new Master’s in Plant Biology for Sustainable Agriculture. This programme was created to address the growing need for more efficient, sustainable agriculture capable of adapting to climate change.

The course combines fundamental science with hands-on experience in both the lab and the field. Over the course of two years, you will learn from leading researchers from ITQB NOVA's Green-it research unit, explore the latest techniques in molecular biology, plant physiology and genetics, and develop in-demand skills for the job market. "In this master’s programme, we are looking for people who want to contribute to a truly sustainable plant-based economy. For that, we seek motivated and curious candidates who are genuinely interested in exploring the fundamental knowledge of plant biology to find the necessary solutions for sustainable agriculture. If this is your vision, then this master’s is for you!", says Isabel Abreu, coordinator of the Master’s in Plant Biology for Sustainable Agriculture.

In the second year, you will have the opportunity to choose between conducting a dissertation or completing an internship in an industrial setting — depending on your interests and career goals. The programme also offers solid training in areas such as molecular biology, agricultural sustainability, and data analysis.

The best part? You will be studying in an international, collaborative environment, surrounded by experts dedicated to tackling global challenges related to food security, sustainable production, and climate change.

In the end, you will be prepared for careers in research and development, agrotech, environmental conservation, and policy within academia, industry, NGOs, and government agencies.

The 2nd phase of applications runs from June 16 to July 7, 2025.
