Nuno Maulide elected member of Austrian Academy of Sciences
Nuno Maulide has become the youngest permanent member and the only foreigner elected for the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
"It is a recognition not only of the valuable scientific work that my team has been doing but also of the impact and presence we currently have in the scientific research landscape in Austria. Chemistry was traditionally a discipline with little weight in the country and I think we have made a small contribution to help change the status quo", the researcher commented to the Portuguese TV network SIC.
In 2019 Nuno Maulide had already received the Ignaz Lieben Prize, the oldest award given to scientists working in Austria. Considered the Austrian Nobel, the Lieben prize highlighted Nuno Maulide's "exceptional contributions" to the development of new reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry.
Nuno Maulide is also one of the most respected science communicators in Austria. He has been elected Scientist of the Year by the Austrian Science and Education Journalists Club and was the first chemist to receive this distinction.
