About us

Green-it puts together researchers from six world-class institutes for biosciences and biotechnology, pursuing excellence in research, international cooperation, and education.

Green-it links ITQB NOVAiBETGIMM and INIAV, all located in the Oeiras Valley,  and INSA and InPP, located in Lisbon and Elvas, respectively. These institutions gather strong critical mass and explore synergies for frontier and multidisciplinary research.

The GREEN-IT team includes:

Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier, Universidade Nova de Lisboa is a research and advanced training institute with a strong Biology core area, but with a multidisciplinary mission, that includes an important contribution of chemists, chemical engineers, and biotechnologists. It has well-developed ties with the chemical and biotechnology companies

Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária is the State Laboratory for Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development that promotes research activities, experiments and demonstration in the fields of animal and plant production, environment and natural resources, forestry, agro-industrial, genetic resources, animal feed, animal and plant health and food safety, accorg to the public policies, set to the different areas of activity.
InnovPlantProtect (InPP) is a collaborative laboratory (CoLab) created to develop biobased innovative solutions to protect crops from pests and diseases, and provide monitoring and diagnosis services, thus contributing to the sustainability of agricultural systems. Its main focus is Mediterranean crops, especially their protection against emergent pests and diseases associated with climate change, whose harmful effects are already visible in many countries, including Portugal.
Instituto de Biologia Experimental e Tecnológica is a private nonprofit Biotechnology Research Organisation. iBET acts as an interface between academic institutions while also creating and organising autonomous knowledge and expertise. iBET brings together, as partners and collaborators, private companies and public institutions, organising competencies for product and process development.
Instituto Nacional de Saúde Dr. Ricardo Jorge is a public body integrated into the indirect administration of the State, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, endowed with scientific, technical, administrative and financial autonomy. It develops a triple mission as a state laboratory in the health sector, a national reference laboratory and national health observatory.
The Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine (GIMM) is a research institute pioneering groundbreaking research from fundamental discoveries to innovative healthcare solutions. GIMM is focused on generating multi- and cross- disciplinary knowledge to answer fundamental questions of biology and human health, while developing solutions to improve health outcomes and promote local and global health equity.
