FAQs

General

All EU Member States and Erasmus+ programme countries, plus a growing number of partner countries worldwide. Specific eligibility depends on the type of mobility and the active call.

For incoming participants

Yes, provided you apply while still enrolled and complete the traineeship within 12 months of graduation.

No. As an international research institute, ITQB NOVA uses English as its main language in all activities. All seminars, lectures and courses are delivered in English and internal communication is done in both languages. Also for administrative purposes, English will be enough. Even outside ITQB NOVA, in general, Portuguese people are able to understand English fairly well. Of course, you might want to take the opportunity to learn Portuguese. Portuguese courses are available.

You can either decide to find a place in Oeiras or choose to live in Lisbon, traveling to Oeiras everyday by train, as so many students at ITQB NOVA do. We provide guidance and recommendations, but participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. You should plan well in advance.

Accomodation options include Fundação Inatel or residences of NOVA University Lisbon but there are few places. Please contact the Erasmus Office or the Internationalization Office (international@itqb.unl.pt) for help or to get reduced fees. You may also opt to rent a room in a private house either via the network Rede1/4 from NOVA or from locally posted adds. See also the Erasmus Student Guide.

On your arrival, you will be provided with all the information necessary for your stay.

In the meantime, you can find a lot of useful information (surviving in Lisbon, housing, events) in the webpage of the Erasmus+ Student Network – Lisbon. By joining this associations students may also benefit from a number of discounts in transportation and many activities (check ESN card and Erasmus Lisboa card for more details).

For outgoing participants

MSc students, PhD students, researchers, and academic, technical, or administrative staff affiliated with ITQB NOVA. Specific eligibility is defined in each call.

Contact us early. New inter-institutional agreements can often be established, but the process takes time and should begin well before the intended mobility.

Yes. Erasmus+ includes special conditions for participants with fewer opportunities and for those choosing sustainable transport options. Details are provided in each call.
