M. Margarida Oliveira
Director

M. Margarida Oliveira is a Full Professor (Catedrática) at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica António Xavier (ITQB NOVA) since June 2020. With a career spanning four decades, she is a leading figure in Plant Biology and Biotechnology in Portugal. In 1985, she started her teaching career at Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon (FCUL), after earning her Biology degree in 1983. Margarida completed her PhD in Plant Biotechnology in 1993, and her Habilitation in Biology in 2001. In 1998 she established a research team at iBET, that later transitioned to ITQB, where she became an Associate Professor in 2008. She was ITQB Vice-Director (2011–23), and she heads the Plant Functional Genomics Lab of the Genomics of Plant Stress Unit.

Isabel Abreu
Deputy-director

Isabel A. Abreu is the Principal Investigator of the Proteome Regulation in Plants Lab at ITQB NOVA. With a Biochemistry degree from the University of Lisbon (1996) and a PhD from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (2002), her scientific journey includes international research at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Rockefeller University in New York. She is the current Director of the Masters in Plant Biology for Sustainable Agriculture and a member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD program Plants for Life. She also coordinates ITQB NOVA’s role in the ITQB/iBET Mass Spectrometry Unit and currently serves as a member of the ITQB NOVA Institute Council.
