New collaborative initiative for agricultural innovation

Scientific coordination by GREEN-IT members of ITQB NOVA, involves academia, companies and government

Launched on Farmers Day, InnovPlantProtect is a collaborative initiative for agricultural innovation led by Universidade Nova de Lisboa (GREEN-IT Research Unit), with partners Instituto Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (INIAV), Elvas Municipality and eight national agricultural entities - ANPOC, ANPROMIS, Bayer, Casa do Arroz, CEBAL, Fertiprado, FNOP and Syngenta.

The competitiveness of the agricultural sector implies an ongoing incorporation of innovation and know-how transfer to the agricultural producers, allowing a larger and better production, with a more sustainable use of available resources.  It will develop its processes and technological products in a market logic, establishing partnerships with national and foreign public and private institutions.

Scientific coordination is assured by Margarida Oliveira, ITQB NOVA researcher in Plant Sciences.

The public presentation took place in Elvas with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development, Luís Capoulas Santos, the President of Elvas Municipality, Nuno Mocinha, the Rector of NOVA, Professor João Sàágua, and the President of INIAV, Nuno Canada.
