Rafael Soares wins Best Poster Award at Plant Biology Europe 2025

PhD student Rafael Soares has been awarded the Best Poster Award at the prestigious Plant Biology Europe 2025 Conference.

Green-it member and PhD student at the Proteome Regulation in Plants Lab, Rafael Soares was recognized for his work: “Rice calcium-dependent protein kinase 17 directly targets sucrose-phosphate synthase 4 to modulate rice cold acclimation”. The study gives new insights into the molecular mechanisms that enable rice plants to adapt to cold stress.

Plant Biology Europe 2025 took place in Budapest, Hungary, from June 25 – 28, and covered both traditional and emerging topics of plant biology across multiple disciplines and scales.

In addition to Rafael Soares’s recognition, Green-it researchers made other notable contributions to the conference. PhD student Joana Belo delivered a well-received oral presentation on “Cork endophytic microbiome: Characterization and impact on plant development”. Researcher Pedro Barros also presented a poster entitled “Gene co-expression analysis identifies candidate epigenetic regulatory modules of periderm development”.

Plant Biology Europe, jointly organized by the Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB) and the European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO), is a biennial event that serves as a major platform for sharing scientific breakthroughs and fostering collaboration in plant science.
