MOSTMICRO-ITQB Exploratory Projects 2026

A total of 18 proposals were submitted by MOSTMICRO-ITQB researchers. Given the high quality of the applications, as evidenced by the evaluations conducted by the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) members involved in this process, Gunnar von Heijne, Christa Schleper, Luis Serrano and Diethard Mattanovich, MOSTMICRO-ITQB was able to secure additional funding from LS4Future to support two additional projects.

The projects selected for funding are:

  1. Endosymbionts and Ecological Adaptation Across Marine-Terrestrial Boundaries in Aspergillus, Bárbara Ferreira (Cristina Silva Pereira Lab)
  2. STRONGER: Fostering Stability in mRNA with Metals, Ana Petronilho Lab
  3. Decoding Staphylococcus aureus Drivers of Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma (CTCL), Maria Miragaia Lab
  4. PERIO-RNA: RNA-Based Therapies for Oral Diseases, Sandra Viegas (Cecília Arraiano Lab)
  5. Ancestral Sequence Reconstruction as a Platform for Sustainable Biocatalyst Discovery and Engineering, Lígia Martins Lab
  6. Structure, Dynamics and Function of the Xport-A/Rhodopsin1 Interaction, Pedro Domingo Lab
  7. Mapping Gut Sulfur Networks from Dietary Inputs to Inflammatory Outcomes, Andreia Pimenta (Inês Cardoso Pereira Lab)
